Day of extremes

Today was a day of extremes. First this morning Alec picked up his math workbook and just started working on it on his own. Normally everyday I have to insist he does some math. It’s the one subject he doesn’t reallly enjoy. I almost keeled over when I saw him working on it.

Then a cheque came in the mail that was desperately needed and we absolutely needed it today.

Finally Alec and another boy in our subdivision were biking. A transport truck was slowly driving down the road and the boys were biking behind. Suddenly the other boy decided to race the transport truck. I ran outside to tell him that he was too close the truck. He was so close the wheel. Just as I was yelling, the trailer end of the truck bumped him off his bike and he flew into the air and landed on the pavement. He wasn’t wearing a helmet but amazingly he never hurt himself badly at all. This 5 year old was very lucky he didn’t get killed. It scared me so badly that it could have been Alec. This boy often rides without a helmet and bikes in the middle of the road. Granted our subdivision has 30km/hr signs everywhere and is isolated but still, it’s too risky. I’ve always stressed that Alec stay on the side of the road.
