Fredericton

I’m back. Aliant’s strike really delayed my phone/internet connection. I realized I was in internet withdrawal:) I have a gazillion emails to get caught up on. The move was fairly smooth. I’m mostly unpacked and settled. The downside of the move is that on Saturday I had to put my cat Ashe down. She was 14 and had been going downhill for a while and got a lot worse lately. I had her to the vet last Friday and again on Saturday. She had high end liver failure and they only gave her a 20-30% chance of recovering with agressive treatment. I lost a cat last year too. So, now we have 2 left, Shadow is 14 and Brandy is 16. I know that they may have problems in the upcoming months/years:(

Bram turned 2 on Tuesday but we’re having the party tonight at Nana’s house. Last night I went to a cybersocial thing at UNB put on by the knowledge park. Thought it might be good for networking, etc. Then I went for a great bike ride and might again tonight too. There are amazing walking/biking trails near my house. I really like my duplex and I think I will like it here a lot. The kids are doing well, enjoying spending time with Daddy, Nana and Grandad.

Yard Sale Karma

So today I had another yard sale, to get rid of the stuff I didn’t sell at the last yard sale because of the bad weather (cold and snow). Thinking the weather weather would be better this time around. Well, so damn cold it’s not funny. 2 degrees celcius and with the windchill probably below zero. Sunny fortunately, but still not the turn out that I would have had if it had been nicer outside. Everyone was complaining about the cold.

I had wanted to take the kids for a walk this afternoon but that’s not going to happen now. I didn’t unpack the winter stuff thinking we were done with it, winter hats, mits, etc. Oh well.

New Traditions

Yesterday was Mother’s Day. A couple of weeks ago, Alec had said that we couldn’t celebrate Mother’s Day this year because Daddy wouldn’t be here to make pancakes. Every year, Kevin used to get up with the kids and cook pancakes and let me sleep in. I told Alec, that Mother’s Day was about celebrating Mother’s everywhere and that we would make new traditions for us. We decided to make pancakes for supper the night before. So, every supper the night before Mother’s Day we will make pancakes. Mother’s Day morning Alec gave me a card he made for me and we we went for a walk. So, we will forge new traditions for our family, it’s about doing things together:)

Biking & stuff

I went for a bike ride last night with a friend. It was really nice and a great workout. My bike is falling apart though. I need to replace the wheel, it makes an awful sound while biking. The bearings are probably shot.

Then I worked until late on a new website I’m working on. Currently, Kevin has the kids on Tues. Wed. and Thurs. evenings. Once he has his own place, he’ll start taking them on some weekends too. Tonight, I am going out with a friend. It should be fun.

I’m going to be doing a workshop in Saint John on Fertility Awareness, May 29th. If anyone is interested in taking it, send me an email as registration is underway.

And upcoming, sponsored by the Midwives Association of New Brunswick
International Midwifery Day on May 22 in Fredericton. Bram’s practically the poster child for it here:) How many 11 lb 2 oz babies are born at home with a midwife on International Midwifery Day:)

This is a day for women and their families to explore choices in birth and look at options to the maternity care crisis that is a reality across Canada. It is also a day to find out more about what midwifery care can offer you in the hospital, birth centres and at home, and how you can support the campaign for midwifery in New Brunswick.

We’ll be celebrating International Midwifery Day with an informal gathering, sharing information, experiences and light snacks. Join us May 22, from 12:30 to 4:00 pm at Lifesong Yoga and Wellness Centre at 73 York St in Fredericton. Babies and children of all ages are welcome.

Is it Meant to be?

I love basketball. I’ve played it most of of my life. When I was 13, I broke my ankle running down the court, just fell somehow. It took me a few months to compensate for my shot as my balance was off slightly when healed from the break. Then when I was 20, (I don’t recommend anyone do this), I was slam dunking off a picnic table. I ran, grabbed the rim, got too much momentum, let go and fell on my back with my arm underneath me. I broke my wrist and had hairline fractures in my vertebrae. That threw off my shot for a long time as my wrist was no longer quite at the right angle. Once again, I had to compensate. So last night, I went to the Nasis Field House and shot hoops for a couple of hours. Silly me, didn’t even think about the fact that dislocating my shoulder back in February would affect my shot. So, once again, I had to learn to compensate, sigh. I love the sport, but I really hope I don’t have to keep compensating for injuries. Eventually, I might be shooting standing at some bizarre angle on one foot or something;) However, I had a lot of fun. Then I worked out in the weight room for a bit and then went for a walk.

Fabulous having some time to myself again. And since we’re never happy with what we have, now I’m fantasizing about sleeping in someday. I haven’t slept in since Easter weekend. Now, I better clarify, I’m aware that many people never get to sleep in, so no disgruntled comments needed;)
