School & Family
Everybody has been asking me how Alec has been managing in school. Well the first week was a little shaky. He was feeling a little overwhelmed by it, although he was enjoying it. He seemed to think he couldn’t do the work. However, when I met with his teacher this week, she said he is not having any problems what so ever with the work. Mostly, he just gets tired and takes a long time to complete the work. Although, she said he was getting more done every day. She said that she could tell he wasn’t used to the routine and schedule of school, which we all knew would be the case. However, academically, he’ doing very well as we expected and having no problems. Emotionally, he’s coming around as well and seems to really look forward to going to school. His teacher said he is happy and sociable all day long. On the playground, he’s having a bit of a hard time because the kids won’t let him play with them. They’ve known each other for a long time and he’s the new kid. He asked them 3 times the other day to play tag and each time they said no. His teacher intervened for him and he was able to play. It will just take time for the other kids to accept him and get to know him.
My Uncle is still in the hospital, although he is doing better. I had thought he would be home by now but it looks like they want to keep him a bit longer. The stroke was very mild, nearly imperceptible. Mostly he’s had low blood sugar and he has parkinson’s as well and it’s affected his balance and with the combination of the fall he had, they just want him a bit more stable before he comes home.
