politics and Easter
From alternet;
In an utterly bizarre yet completely in-character performance on Sunday’s political talk shows, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld declared that someone else besides the U.S. was to blame for the persistent violence inside Iraq: Turkey. If only Turkey had allowed American forces to use its territory to open a northern front at the war’s start, then by golly we would have shown those Baathists a thing or two and the insurgency would have been squelched before it began. Rumsfeld said,
“Given the level of the insurgency today, two years later, clearly, if we had been able to get the Fourth Infantry Division in from the north through Turkey, more of the Iraqi Saddam Hussein Baathist regime would have been captured or killed.”
Of course we’ll never know if that’s true, just like we’ll never know if American troops would have won the war sooner if they had been riding giant, fire-spitting ostriches with bullet-proof feathers.

Easter is coming up. The kids and I are going to kevin’s parents for Easter dinner. Kevin and Melisa will be there too. Yep, people find it strange, that we’re all one big family. His family means a lot to me though. Ever since Mom died, I’ve become very close to his Mom and the rest of the family. With my sister being in Calgary, Dad in Montreal and my brother in Thailand, I don’t really have a lot of family close by. Kevin’s parents are my family too though and I hope that I’ll always be welcome in their family. And Kevin is still my family too in a strange sort of way. Other than my sister, he’s my best friend and I know that we’re there for each other when the other needs it. It just goes to show that families come in all shapes and sizes, it’s all a matter of how we choose to define it. The kids are surrounded by love. Even if we don’t all live together, we all share bonds that are too important to break. So on this Easter, I choose to celebrate the renewal of life through family and friends.
