I’m still alive

I’m still entrenched with work, life and the kids. I’ve managed to take time out to get to the gym but that’s about it.

My family thing I went to was difficult. I saw and spoke to my Step-Dad for the first time in 2 1/2 years. I was surprised he came and hadn’t expected to see him there. Since my mom died, he’s remarried and moved onto a new life. Seeing him and my Mom’s grave brought back a lot of memories. The anniversary of her death is coming up Sept. 2 so I think some of all of this will be lingering around for a bit.

Alec is in science camp this week. First day today and he smashed his knee cap while there and now it’s hugely swollen. Other than that, both kids are doing well.

I’m not sure how much longer I’ll be able to keep at the pace I’ve been working at. I don’t get paid for overtime, but I do get lieu time which is good for when I have to stay home because the kids are sick, etc. I’m also doing web work for clients, so the candle has been burning on both ends. I’m not trying to be a big complainer here, things aren’t terrible, lol. I’m just tired, that’s all. I’m out of commision from basketball till the fall season starts and I’ve been doing some intensive physio and strength building on my shoulder to get it ready for the upcoming season.

One thing I’ve discovered though is that I still secretly want to be a superhero, lol. When I was a kid I used to love G-Force and I wanted to be Princess (what kind of lame name is that for a female super hero? I used to love that show, remember Jason, Mark, Tiny and the other guy. Wonder Woman, Isis, all those women fascinated me. Well lately I’ve been watching Elektra, DareDevil (great movie), Tomb Raider, Blade Trinity, etc. while running on my elliptical. They’re great movies for running to because the pace is just right, gets the adrenalin going. I watch those chicks run, kick some butt and I’m completely enthralled, and considering I’m a pacifist, I’m not sure how that all reconciles. The little girl in me still wants to be the superheroine;)

blogging in the paper

I made the local paper today in an article about blogging. I wouldn’t give out my blog url though when she had interviewed me. Strange really, when I know from my stats that I have so many readers that are strangers, but maybe there’s just something about posting it in the local paper that seems a bit too much out there, lol.

Also an update for those of you who have been following my blog for a long time. Remember my friend Mitch from Newfoundland that I went to visit last year? Well we have stayed in touch and are great friends. This past Jan. he met somone online who lived in the Phillipines. They have been corresponding regularly and this summer he went there to visit her. I am pleased to say that on the 10th of this month they got married. She will be moving to Canada as soon as possible and they will start a new life together. I am happy for him and hope that everything works out.

Mitch is the second online friend of mine that has made a big move like this. This past Jan. another friend of mine in Halifax moved to Finland to be with someone he had been correpsonding with for 2 years online and they had only met in person once before. They also have since gotten married and he has settled in Finland. So the internet stories of love from afar do exist in real life;)

p.s. it’s my birthday on tuesday;)

Birthday week

Today I am 36 years old. 40 keeps getting closer and closer. There’s no way to deny I am definitely getting older now. My birthday week (a tradition penned by Grandad) started off on Sat. when Nana & Grandad (Kevin’s parents) came by with an ice cream cake and card. In typical fashion the kids don’t remember unless someone (me) reminds them it is my birthday. This morning when I told Bram it was my birthday, he said “noooooooooo, it’s MY birthday”, lol.

At work, one of my co-workers bakes a cake for everyone’s birthday. Yesterday was someone else’s birthday so we all had cake and today there will be cake again. I’ve had to up my running this week to make up for all the cake calories;)

And speaking of running, there’s a Running Room store opening in King’s place this week. My sister had told me about the store in Calgary. They do free running workshops and are very knowledgable about sneaker choices, etc. I’ve always had quite a bit of pain when I run for long distance on the bottom of my feet because I have low arches. So I’m going to go talk to someone there about what they would suggest.

Sick

Sooooo sick, but still alive.

Will post in a few days hopefully.
