Swamped

I’ll write a longer post soon, but I’m swamped right now. I did want to give kudos to the liberal government today for their press release related to childhood obesity and tackling diabetes. The two are intrically linked and need to be tackled in tandem. I have a lot more to say on the subject, but no time.

For humour, check out this gruesome site, be neat to have family portraits like this, lol.

I like the fact that obesity was addressed today, but I’m not quite sure about the solution. However, I have to admit I did like the fact that he [Graham] would reinstate the New Brunswick Games for students and physical education in elementary schools as well as programs for extra-curricular athletics. But pedometers? What the hell. That’s a toy that should only be used by those who have suffered a massive coronary or have gone through triple bypass surgery. Not something that we should make potential, energetic children and teens capitulate to just yet. Am I way off on this one?

Did you know that Graham was quite an athlete at one time? Word has it though that he loves sugar- laden drinks from Tim’s and Roxy is always telling him to work out more. I hear there is a strong connection to Garda … http://www.pilatesbygarda.ca/ She has those colourful shoes in her shop … the ones everybody talks about. Crocks or something. I think pedometers and Crocks combo would be neat … and that kids would have a hard time keeping up with Graham. He’s one fast walker. :>) The Nurses Union gave we RN’s pedometers but mine was too complicated for me to program. So I just guestimate instead. Then have desert. Anyway, I think I will go find TJ Burke on the campaign trail over the next week, give him my cheque of support and tell him when he is a Cabinet Minister he should have a one on one with this Lisa R person. Graham does have a kineseology degree from UNB — his background is in physical fitness.

Graham goes the “distance”. What is generally agreed by all that know him is that he is a very hard worker, bright beyond bright, and has genuine concern for others. His wedding to Roxanne was witness to the respect the two of them have for children as all of their MANY attendants were children of varying ages. It was quite a statement. It is no surprise then that he wants to assist the children of the Province of NB - politics aside. I also had the chance to bend the ear of TJ Burke today - this fellow is a winner. I showed him through the long-term care facility where I work and stressed to him the importance of excellant housing for the other vulnerable part of our society - seniors and those younger infirmed due to accidents or disease processes. I have a vested interest in this as I am part of the baby-boom generation - with an aging mother but also face the prospects of ME and my FRIENDS funnelling through a crowded system in the years ahead. I’m a cancer survivor - being on the OTHER side of the system was interesting for me. There is a website you might enjoy … the facility where I work is embracing this program so we can serve to the best of our ability.
