This evening I decided to head up to the Brookside Mall and pick up a few items for xmas. Heading over to The Source (who I will probably always think of as Radio Shack), I went to check out the remote control cars for Alec for xmas. While there, I overheard one of the men working there discussing their lack of female staff at the store. I being generally nosy, lol, piped up and gave them my thoughts on that and about the store’s method of marketing to women in general. I mentioned Best Buy and their revamp to better target women shoppers. As the stats that have been coming out, women buy technology more than men, they just buy more than men overall. I had a nice conversation with the guy there. He mentioned that they were actively trying to introduce some more intuitive ways of shopping. I pick out the RC car and some accessories, then he offers me a second one for a discounted price. I took it gladly. While the store itself may not be overly user friendly, the staff were excellent and very helpful. Kudos to them, particularly when many sales people are becoming tired and cranky from the holiday rush.
