Window Shopping with Life

That’s what things have been reduced to lately. My challenge in life will be to achieve balance. And while I am making an attempt, in that it’s only 12:45 am tonight and I plan to go to bed in a few minutes. My typical time to bed for months has been between 2 and 3 am. The mini attempts at balance have been weekly basketball and time with the kids. But I’m feeling stressed and cranky because I haven’t gotten out for anything else fun in a while and committments are piling up. I haven’t been on a date in ages. I go through whims where I window shop in the online dating sites. I have profiles on them, but they’re inactive and hidden because I sucked at keeping up with correspondence and was never on msn. So instead I just browse every so often and look at the profiles of those I’ve chatted with before and remember what it was like to have a social life, lol.

However the good news is that we’re hiring in the next week or so and that means a huge weight off me. I’ll be able to have more time to try and find some balance in my life.

jajakoom, I haven’t forgotten about you. Plan to receive some artwork in a week.

Dan, thanks for the bugging, it paid off. I needed the prodding;)

To those of you who emailed me asking if I was still alive, thanks:) Yes, still alive.

P.S. Anyone with php and ajax skills interested in a full time job? Email me for job description details. You can find my email in the about me page.

P.P.S. Anyone want to drag me out of the house to a movie?;)

I will try to blog more responsibly;) And yes Dan, Spinks, Scott, Andrea, Harold, Skylark, Jordan and all the rest of you, I’m still reading and nearly caught up on all of your blogs:)

The Housework Facade

Why do we do this? A friend of mine with a very new baby has told me her house is a mess and she wouldn’t dare let anyone over. I told her that it probably in reality was like every other busy family’s home. It always works like this; a friend calls up and says she’d like to drop in for a visit. You say sure, come on over. After you hang up the phone, you run around the house like a maniac trying to get the house cleaned up before they arrive. After her arrival, you tell her “don’t worry about the mess, I haven’t had time to clean” but SHE knows and YOU know that you just cleaned it to get it to the state it is now. The reason she knows is because she does the same thing at her house. I have friends that say that having someone drop in is the only reason their house gets cleaned on a regular basis, which doesn’t surprise me in the least. We all do it, so why don’t we just admit our houses are messy at times when they are over run with kids, work and life. Yet somehow we all play the same game, we all know the same rules of what to say.

Politics is Personal

I discovered through Scott that insanely enough my blog got listed on Warren Kinsella’s blog for women bloggers. I followed some of the links and read a post on liberal Catnip’s blog that I think summed it up quite well.

there are plenty more out there who do not necessarily blog about ‘politics’ per se - reminding me that there are some women who intersperse ‘political’ issues with personal postings (as I do here as well, occasionally). Okay. That would seem to make my task much more vast then. ‘Politics’ is much more than discussions about political parties etc. It is personal.

I think for a lot of women, the two are inter-related. The decisions in politics will affect my family, my life. My vote is made for personal reasons for how something will impact my family and my life. Like all of us, we encounter issues daily that affect us. Sometimes posting about political issues is more challenging than a quick update on life post, because so many thoughts and ideas have to be taken into account. This week thoughts about global warming, Harper’s attack on the environment and the liberals have been prevalent in my mind. Often these posts are in my head and I add to them mentally over time, only to get bogged down with life and then the moment has passed, on to new issues and it’s too late.

And I would also say that Warren Kinsella has unfortunately been very limited in his exposure to female bloggers as there are many, many out there who discuss issues and politics without being “official” political bloggers. Women from a wide range of experiences, backgrounds and situations all contributing their voice from their perspective. I have a slew of them I could add myself, but many are already listed in the offshoots of the pages he lists or that liberal catnip lists.

Blogs as Employment Listings

Who knew my recent post saying we needed someone with php and ajax skills would be responded to so quickly. Here’s a response I received by email today. It’s definitely good for a laugh;)

I’m writing to offer my services for the full-time job as I have great experience in both php and ajax.

I’ve had php (post-hormonal palpitations) since 1989, which makes me, I’m sure, an expert at it.  That, combined with my maturity and grey hair, could only benefit your organization.  As for Ajax, I must admit that I use Comet instead but I do manage to get my sinks really, really clean.  While the color and the odor are not quite the same,  the results are achieved, nonetheless.

It’s Gone

Well, not all of it, but I got a bunch of hair cut off. If you remember from Oct. 2004, I debated cutting my hair. I wish I hadn’t lost the comments in the switch to wordpress because you all had lots of great suggestions for my hair. So I finally decided it was time for a change. Now that I’m getting old and all;) It’s shoulder length now and a feels a lot lighter. At the salon, I gave them a tall order to fill.

I want it to look professional/executive but it has to be long enough to wear in a pony tail for basketball and it has to look sexy because hey I’m single;) She told me no problem and I think she did a good job. There was probably enough hair on the floor to make a wig. I probably lost 5 lbs in hair alone, lol.

I’ll get a picture taken on the weekend and put it up. I’m definitely looking older than that older picture now too, sigh.
