To Wii or not to Wii

I’m thinking of getting the kids a wii for xmas but wondered if anyone had any personal experience. I have to admit that I always said that I wouldn’t buy a nintendo, xbox, etc. as we had computers and I couldn’t see the point for just playing games. But I like how the wii has a physical activity element to it, so I’m considering it.

Anyone?

Getting Married

Nope, not me;)

And apparently neither is Allen Stern at Centernetworks.com.

I can’t get married yet - I need to find her on Facebook, make sure she has a MySpace page, she will need to tell her friends about the proposal via twitter, her family will find out via rss on her blog…

Keep reading about marriage web 2.0 style.

What’s scary is I actually knew what he was talking about and could even see that some of those things might be practical, sigh;) Although, heaven help me if I actually find a husband on facebook, although better that than myspace, lol.

October Chatter

So what have I been up to in October.

The kids and I have started Geocaching. It’s treasure hunting for the whole family using a GPS unit. We went to an intro session today and now we’re all hooked. It’s been on my to do list for a while, so next step is buying a GPS unit. Anyone have any input?

The kids have a new half sister. Kevin and Melisa had a baby girl on Friday morning. The kids are excited about having a baby sister. This is a big change for them to process, so we’ll be watching carefully to see how they adjust. Alec had some concerns up to this point, but I think he’s ok now. I’m mostly concerned about Bram as he’s been the baby of the family for so long. Although in many ways I think it will be beneficial for Bram to learn about others needs as well.

We’ve had some challenges with Alec in school and bullying (most of it happening on the bus). But we’re addressing it from various routes. His teacher has been excellent about being proactive to help provide support.

Work is going very well, we’re launching a brand new site design very soon. I can’t wait. I have to say I love my job even if it does keep my extremely busy. I’m in a position where I have to learn new things all the time and I thrive on the challenge. I’ve also been very fortunate to network with so many people online and learn from their expertise.

As Moms Wii Choose

If you remember my recent post about contemplating to buy a wii for the kids for xmas, well that’s exactly what I did. Today’s grokdotcom.com blog post by Holly Buchanan didn’t suprise me in the least in it’s discussion that the Nintendo Wii is proving more popular with women than sony or microsoft. Over the last 10 years of raising two boys, only the Wii has been able to be relevant enough to me as a Mom to want to dish out that kind of money for a game console. The opportunity to play together as a family and promote some physical activity at the same time sold me completely.

And aren’t we all having a blast punning wii to the max;)

Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future. -JFK

Something has been building for a while with my thoughts about my blog. And so there are going to be changes in the future. My blog has been a reflection in many ways of my life. It was definitely a personal blog. I started out blogging about the kids, parenting and life interspersed with my views of the world. Then after the separation of my marriage, it became about my transition as a single mother, as a woman and not just a wife or mother.  Over the past year, I have transitioned into a very busy executive role in a corporation that is growing rapidly and that has impacted my blogging from a privacy perspective and interest perspective.

I have taken a couple of large breaks from blogging over the last 4 years and part of that it is because I think that this format for who I am as a personal blog isn’t really working for me anymore. I have found facebook to be a great way for family and friends to stay in touch, see pictures of the kids and find out what is happening with us. But for a while now, I have been feeling an urge to start a new blog that is less personal and more about issues related to items that are important to what I do on a daily basis. So while I will still likely occasionally blog in here, I will be announcing a new blog in the coming month while I prepare it for launch.

So what is this new blog? Well;

I don’t profess to be the next Guy Kawasaki or Seth Godin.
It will have NB and maritime flavour
It will be online media related

That’s all the tidbits for now.

Stay tuned

p.s. Happy Halloween! If you see a kid dressed as an ipod, that’s Alec;)
