The History of the internet in NB
For all you NB’ers that wondered how the internet process in NB started. It only starts being familiar to me at about 1988. I had done a post not that long on my recollections of the internet.

Sometimes I miss being able to blog about whatever I wanted. Or at least the naievty of not thinking about who might read my blog and the impact or perception it could create. Recently on Jordan’s blog, he brought up a good point in relation to something awful that happened in the blogosphere recently. When I blog now, I have to think about the company and any misperceptions that could occur. I have a disclaimer, but still, some people have lost their jobs over blogs. In some ways my blog has become watered down. Partially because I’ve been so busy, but partially because maybe talking about sex now wouldn’t be such a great idea, although my stats and comments were pretty high when I used to, lol - and for those of you who go searching through the archives looking for those posts, they’ve been deleted (and for those of you still curious, no it was never writing about my sexual escapades, lol. It was rather generic, educational type stuff;)). And yes I know we’re not supposed to edit our blog posts, but it is still essentially my blog and my choice. Heck even strong political views I have to be cautious of (although we all know what I really think;)). Yet the reality is that if someone was truly sick they could take anything we write about, our kids, our lives, whatever and twist it or write things that could potentially scare us.
So like everything in life, it’s about finding balance, what we feel comfortable writing about and giving some thought about who is reading, family, friends, employers, employees, clients, ex’s, future dates and so on. And probably eventually my kids, ack.;)
Tomorrow is Friday the 13th. So you can kindly put hotmail back up anytime soon.
Although since I have about 7 different email accounts between work, the old business, and life, you’d think it wouldn’t matter. I even have a Gmail account that I never use, which I suppose I’m regretting right about now, sigh.
Well I said I would post on the weekend, so I’m following through. It’s been a super busy week.
First I need to update on the “hot date” I had last weekend;) To the 2 readers who emailed me who had put two and two together, kudos to you;) It wasn’t truly a date, it was to meet, none other then fellow blogger Dan (Brikwall). We hatched up a scheme between the two of us to have a little fun with our readers;) And based from the 2 emails I received wanting to know the nitty gritty, I’d say it worked, lol. Like Dan said on his blog, we never really know someone from the blogging world until we get a chance to meet them and put a face to the page more or less. I had a great time and he even dropped in by surprise to the expo on Sat. and took some photos of my booth (although I’ve yet to see them;)). Thank you Dan for a lovely evening:)
The expo itself went very well. It was nice to welcome new members from NB and PEI to the site. I also ran into old friends and was able to catch up on things.
Speaking of old friends. Who’s on Facebook? Or I should say, who else is addicted to it? I’ve dug up old high school friends, old co-workers, new friends, online friends, the whole gamut. I love the fact that everyone’s birthday is in there. I’m terrible about remembering where I wrote down people’s birthday’s. This way I don’t have to write it down, it’s all there, every month, reminders and everything. So hey, invite me as a friend in facebook;)
The best part about this week is the weather. I’m sure everyone was finally rejoicing and spending time outside today, soaking up the sun. I’m planning on tackling some yard work tomorrow while the kids play outside.
Something has been building for a while with my thoughts about my blog. And so there are going to be changes in the future. My blog has been a reflection in many ways of my life. It was definitely a personal blog. I started out blogging about the kids, parenting and life interspersed with my views of the world. Then after the separation of my marriage, it became about my transition as a single mother, as a woman and not just a wife or mother. Over the past year, I have transitioned into a very busy executive role in a corporation that is growing rapidly and that has impacted my blogging from a privacy perspective and interest perspective.
I have taken a couple of large breaks from blogging over the last 4 years and part of that it is because I think that this format for who I am as a personal blog isn’t really working for me anymore. I have found facebook to be a great way for family and friends to stay in touch, see pictures of the kids and find out what is happening with us. But for a while now, I have been feeling an urge to start a new blog that is less personal and more about issues related to items that are important to what I do on a daily basis. So while I will still likely occasionally blog in here, I will be announcing a new blog in the coming month while I prepare it for launch.
So what is this new blog? Well;
I don’t profess to be the next Guy Kawasaki or Seth Godin.
It will have NB and maritime flavour
It will be online media related
That’s all the tidbits for now.
Stay tuned
p.s. Happy Halloween! If you see a kid dressed as an ipod, that’s Alec;)
